Lovers Voyage: A Short Love Poem by Injete Chesoni

Fused Flames of Love: Abstract Metal Art Work by Injete Chesoni

Lovers Voyage
(A Short Love Poem and Lovers Poem by Injete Chesoni)
~~~~~~~
The voyage started off calm and peaceful
And gently we drifted along
As we sailed further out
A storm started brewing
And rapidly we lost all control
~~~~~~~
Swept by the waves of passion
We were helpless in the storm
Two self-less bodies together
Making a new form
~~~~~~~
When the storm was over
We gently drifted apart
And then we came back together
Joined at the heart
Fourth of July Flag Sheet Cake
Ingredients
2 recipes White Sheet Cake
Cream Cheese Frosting
1 1/2 pints fresh blueberries
1 1/2 pints fresh raspberries
Directions
Trim any rough edges from cakes using a serrated knife. Place four strips of parchment paper around the perimeter of a serving platter. Place first layer, bottom side up, on serving platter. Using an offset spatula, spread cake with 2 1/2 cups frosting. Top with remaining layer, bottom side up. Spread entire cake with 5 1/2 cups frosting. Place remaining frosting in a large pastry bag fitted with a star tip (such as Ateco #35). Remove parchment paper strips.
Using the tip of a toothpick, outline the shape of a flag on the cake. Fill the upper left-hand corner with a single layer of blueberries. Place one row of raspberries across upper edge of cake to form first red stripe. Pipe one row of stars just below raspberries to form first white stripe. Repeat process with remaining raspberries and frosting until you have 7 red and 6 white stripes.
Patriotic Punch Cups
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Plastic cups
Large and small star stickers (red, white, and blue)
Placard
Marker
1. Add a large red, white, or blue star sticker to each cup, along with a few smaller stars for decoration.
2. Next to an assortment of markers, set up a placard directing guests to choose a cup for the event and write their name on it.
Musical Stars and Stripes
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Regular and decorative scissors
Ruler
Red, white, and blue craft foam
Small hole punch
White paint
Small paintbrush or star stamp
30 small paper clips (ours were red, white, and blue)
12-inch wooden skewer with the sharp tips cut off
Ribbon or wire
13 bells (ours were 3/4 inch in size)
1. Cut out a 4 1/2- by 4-inch blue craft foam rectangle. Punch 4 evenly spaced holes on one of the long sides of the rectangle and 7 on the other.
2. Paint on the stars; we used a small star stamp.
3. Using scissors with decorative blades, cut out 7 red craft foam strips: three 1/2 by 8 inches, four 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. Cut out 6 white craft foam strips: three 1/2 by 8 inches and three 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches.
4. Punch holes in both ends of all of the strips and thread paper clips through all the holes.
5. Attach the 7 short strips to the bottom of the blue square. Thread 4 paper clips through the holes at the top of the blue square.
6. Slide all the pieces onto the wooden skewer to form the flag, then attach a piece of ribbon or wire to the ends of the skewer as shown. Attach a bell to the clip on each strip and let your colors fly.
Fourth of July Twirlers
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Plastic coffee can lids
Marker
Scissors
String
1. To make one, use a nail to poke a hole in the center of a plastic coffee can lid.
2. With a marker, draw a spiral that starts 3/8 inch from the hole and gradually extends to the rim, then cut along the line with scissors.
3. Knot an end of a piece of string, thread the other end up through the hole in the center, and the twirler is ready to hang up and spin.
Tips: To spin, grasp each one at the bottom, twirl it around and around until the string is wound tight, let go and enjoy the show.
Firecracker Favors
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Roll of candy (we used Life Savers)
Colored tape
Foil party picks
1. For each firecracker, remove the outer wrapper from a roll of candy. Wrap the inner lining with colored tape.
2. Insert foil party picks into the center of the roll, snapping off part of the pick if needed to get the correct length.
